Hey! I’m Emma Randall
Emma made her first sewing project at school in what was then called Needlework followed by her next project as a teenager under the watchful eye of her Great Aunt Win – an English Paper Pieced cushion! This was followed by experiments in cross stitch, tapestry, card making and many other crafts but Emma felt something was missing. Health issues as a result of an allergic reaction to medication forced her to give up stitching by hand so she started exploring what she could do instead. In 2009 while helping at a girl guide group, 2 of the guides wanted to do something to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation and it was suggested that the group could make a quilt. Thanks to another volunteer who was a quilter and willing to share her knowledge Emma was able to lead the project, the girls got the local community involved and the result was a stunning quilt that raised over £1000 in a raffle. Emma was hooked!
Emma then spent a year at a local adult education centre learning all she could about patchwork and quilting and made her first of many quilts – although it was far from perfect (note hand sewing and machine sewing in the same quilt is not a good idea!) and Emma must have tested the patience of her tutor, it covered her bed for nearly 14 years.
Emma also attended many classes at Creative Quilting and eventually started working there one morning a week (she says it was to fund her habit of buying fabrics). In 2019 Emma started teaching at Creative Quilting – she loves sharing her knowledge and tips so it was a natural progression for her. Fast forward to 2021 and when the then manager of Creative Quilting left Emma became manager and became responsible for running the shop and choosing fabrics in addition to teaching. To date Emma has now made over 400 quilted projects and has no plans to stop!
